The gender differences with men and women are truly interesting to observe. Men and women have coexisted together in this planet for millions of years, but we can’t seem to understand each other. We have been to the moon, launched a space station, quantified the different matter and energy in the universe, put a name to almost all forms of living things, created atomic size robots, observed much smaller particles than atom, and found ways to effectively kill each other with as much damage as possible. Still, we can’t even begin to scratch each others characteristics and personalities. It seems that the single letter in our chromosomes that distinguish as from each other also serves as that great chasm that divides us. We are so alike yet so different. We speak the same language feel the same feelings, but we can’t seem to understand each other. This chasm is so wide that our gender differences spawned movies, songs and books. This has been effectively discussed in the book Women are from Venus, Men are from Mars. Despite the various studies, men and women continually misunderstand each other.
Take my children for example. My boys like power rangers, space cowboys, pirates, toy guns, cars that are secretly robots from outer space and hitting each other with a colorful stick. I can hear them saying: ”It is not a colorful stick! It is a Jedi light saber!” They have a language of their own and you will never catch them dead playing Barbie or Bratz games. Now my adorable girls meanwhile love to play their fairies, princesses, Bratz games specially the cute and cuddly ponies at Bratz games. Now this one I can relate. At least they do not go around hitting each other with a colorful stick called a Jedi light saber. They will just sit and smile playing with their dolls or if they grow tired of it they open the computer and go to Bratz games. Bratz Ponyz is their favorite wherein they can dress up the adorable ponies named Sashay, Bonita, Pursia and Celeste for their own pony fashion show.
So even when they are still little kids, boys and girls exist in different universes. I can’t even understand my own little boys with their competitive spirit and urge to grandstand. When they grow up, I am sure that it will not make them easier to understand. I dread the day when they will all go home all filled with dirt and sweat playing football or being oblivious to everything that is going on whenever there are a bunch of cars going around in an oblong at suicidal speeds. Men and danger seem to be like a synonymous word or badly conjoined Siamese twins. They seem to like pain and suffering and looking all manly about it. I prefer a quiet afternoon with the little girls playing with their little Bratz dolls and their tea parties or their virtual ponies at Bratz games. At least all their bones are intact.
